APD: Driver hit, killed pedestrian in South Austin

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) is asking for information on a deadly hit-and-run crash on West Ben White Boulevard on Sunday.

APD said on Nov. 3, at approximately 7:35 p.m., officers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian in the 600 block of the West Ben White Boulevard eastbound service road. Police said a driver hit the pedestrian, identified as 42-year-old Angela Cantu, and drove off. Cantu was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police said the vehicle they believe was involved in the crash was exiting the 7-Eleven parking lot onto South 1st Street, then turned north before heading eastbound on Ben White Boulevard.

No one has been arrested in connection with this crash, and APD asks that anyone with any information contact the Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-8111 or submit a tip through Capital Area Crime Stoppers online or by calling 512-472-8477.

This is being investigated as Austin's 75th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 80 total deaths. By Nov. 3 2023, there had been 76 fatal crashes that resulted in 79 deaths.
