Pedestrian killed in South Austin hit-and-run

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Police Department (APD) investigators are looking for a driver they say hit and killed a pedestrian earlier this week.

On Tuesday, Aug. 27, just after 1 a.m., officers responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 700 block of the East Ben White Boulevard service road going westbound. The pedestrian, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the vehicle didn't stop.

Anyone with any information about this crash is asked to call APD's Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-8111. Tips may also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers online or by calling 512-472-8477. 

APD said this investigation is still pending, and this initial information could change.

This crash is being investigated as the city's 58th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 63 deaths. On Aug. 27, 2023, there had been 63 fatal crashes, resulting in 66 deaths.
