Neighbors told Austin police they had seen Hernandez and Cisneroz arguing and physically fighting. Cisneroz was later arrested and admitted to strangling Hernandez until she fainted before driving off in her car.

Police suspected Cisneroz already knew Hernandez had died based on his reaction to being told about her death. The day after Hernandez's body was found, autopsy results indicated that she had died as the result of manual strangulation.

Cisneroz was formally sentenced by a judge on Friday.
