APD identifies man killed in Dec. 16 shooting on 6th Street

The suspect, 29-year-old Trei Michael Adriec Hernandez, was shot and killed by police after a dispute escalated outside a Sixth Street bar.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) has revealed the identity of the man who was shot and killed by officers after a dispute at a Sixth Street bar on Dec. 16.

The Austin Police Department said it all started when an armed man, later identified as 29-year-old Trei Michael Adriec Hernandez, tried to get inside in a bar.

An employee at the bar identified Hernandez to police. According to APD, when officers arrived, Hernandez pointed the gun in the direction of police and bystanders.

The APD officers then fired at Hernandez, while he returned fire. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene just after midnight.

Three bystanders sustained injuries during the incident and were taken to the hospital. One had serious injuries, while the other two sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

No officers were injured in the incident, according to APD. APD’s Special Investigations Unit is still investigating to determine if the injuries were caused by the suspect or by police.
