AUSTIN, Texas — An investigation is underway after a person was shot near a high school in North Austin.
The Austin Police Department (APD) said officers were called out to Fairfield Drive near Navarro Early College High School just after 1 p.m. Thursday.
When officers arrived, they found a young man with apparent gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to APD.
Officials with Austin ISD said the young man ran to the parking lot looking for medical attention following the shooting. The campus was briefly placed in "secure" mode until police determined the area was safe and that there was no threat to the school.
As a temporary precaution, the district said police increased patrols in the area for the day.
