AUSTIN, Texas — Police have arrested a 16-year-old in connection with a deadly shooting at a North Austin apartment complex on Monday.
The Austin Police Department (APD) said on Sept. 30, at approximately 8:20 p.m., officers responded to a complex located at 9120 Northgate Blvd. for a call of a shooting. When they arrived on the scene, officers found a male on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim, later identified as 16-year-old Ahsun Madison, was pronounced dead at the scene just after 9 p.m.
APD said investigators were able to identify the suspect as a 16-year-old male "as he had been involved in multiple shootings in the area earlier this year," including the death of 21-year-old Francisco Muntufa Miranda in January, though he was not the shooter in that incident. The suspect was out on bond for prior shootings, according to APD.
Police said the investigation into Monday's incident showed the suspect had shot and killed Madison at the complex on Northgate, then fled the scene. Detectives with APD's Gang Suppression Unit located the suspect and arrested him. He was then booked into the Gardner-Betts Juvenile Justice Center and charged with first-degree murder.
Anyone with any information about this shooting is asked to contact APD at 512-974-TIPS or Capital Area Crime Stoppers online or by calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information that leads to an arrest.
APD is investigating this incident as the city's 48th homicide of 2024.
