Police identify suspect in fatal shooting at northeast Austin home

The gunshots came after a verbal altercation happened in the backyard of a residence, which later transitioned to the front yard, the APD said.

AUSTIN, Texas — Police responded to the scene of a fatal shooting at a residence in northeast Austin Saturday afternoon.

The Austin Police Department (APD) said the incident happened in the 6000 block of Hickman Avenue. According to the APD, a man was fatally shot at approximately 4 p.m. outside of a home in the area. The gunshots came after a verbal altercation happened in the backyard of a residence, which later transitioned to the front yard, the APD said.

On Oct. 26, police identified the suspect as Jose Luis Gorostieta-Martinez, 44. The deceased was identified as 49-year-old Jose Aguirre-Martinez.

The APD said it is still searching for the suspect responsible for the shooting, who fled the scene in a vehicle. Police said it was an isolated incident and there is not believed to be a danger to the public.

This is Austin's 72nd homicide of 2021.
