AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) said on Monday, Jan. 31, that officers arrested a man in connection with a fatal shooting at a Walmart parking lot a day before Thanksgiving.
On. Jan. 31, 2022, the APD said Ronald Leon Bryant, 42, was located and arrested on Dec. 28, 2021, by the Lonestar Fugitive Task Force.
Police identified the victim on Nov. 29 as Jose Juan Vasquez, 28. Police said he was located with gunshot injuries after they received a 911 call reporting shots fired from the area of 1030 Norwood Park Blvd. around 10:40 p.m. Vasquez was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas, where he was pronounced deceased at 11:20 p.m.
On Dec. 2, 2021, the APD said it had identified two suspects in the shooting and gave the following description of them:
- Suspect one: 35-year-old man, 6 feet, 1 inch, large build, last seen wearing a white T-shirt, white shorts with “Metal Night” print and white Jordans
- Suspect two: 40-year-old man, 5 feet, 10 inches, heavy-set, last seen wearing a black T-shirt, torn blue jean shorts, red and orange running shoes and a black mask with white lettering
Their vehicle was described as a black sedan and possibly a Ford. Photos of the suspects were provided by the police:
The Travis County Medical Examiner's Office completed an autopsy and determined the cause of death as a gunshot wound and the manner as a homicide.
