Bastrop Co. commissioner charged with abuse of official capacity

BASTROP, Texas – A grand jury has indicted a Bastrop County commissioner on charges he misused county equipment for personal gain.

Gary “Bubba” Snowden, commissioner for Precinct 4, was arrested Tuesday after the indictment. Authorities allege Snowden used Bastrop County construction materials and employing road and bridge crews to resurface two private roads. The two-page indictment charges Snowden with three counts of abuse of official capacity. One charge is a third-degree felony and two state jail felonies. The third-degree felony charge alleges the cost of the misused materials was greater than $30,000 and less than $150,000, while the state jail felonies allege the material cost was greater than $2,500 and less than $30,000.

The indictment lists Snowden was released after posting $75,000 bond.
