AUSTIN, Texas — On Saturday, anyone who drove near or around Bernoulli Drive in South Austin was met with crime tape and several roads and homes blocked off by Austin police officers and crime scene investigators.
The massive police presence was the aftermath of a 911 call turned deadly in the early morning hours of Nov. 11. Four people, including a SWAT officer, were killed.
Gaston Jones said he woke up to gunfire a little after 4 a.m.
"I just thought it was a bunch of car doors slamming at first, but then I started hearing sirens and a lot of the commotion," Jones said. "So I got up and I looked out the window, and there's just a ton of cop cars everywhere."
Jones, who has lived in the neighborhood with his family for about five years, described it as "pretty peaceful."
"It's not something you expect in your neighborhood," Jones said. "It's kind of hard to process right now."

Dylan Gole, who is fairly new to the neighborhood, said he woke up to text messages from friends hoping he was OK.
"We thought this place was really safe, but turns out, crime can happen down the street," Gole said.
At one point, residents who live on Bernoulli Drive had to check in with an APD officer who had blocked the entry into the street as a precaution.
According to Austin Interim Police Chief Robin Henderson, Senior Police Officer Jorge Pastore was shot and killed in the line of duty. Another unnamed officer was injured and is in stable condition at Dell Seton Medical Center.
Three other people also died, including the suspect.
"It's horrible that someone's just doing their job trying to protect the safety of other people had to pass away," Jones said.
"I just feel really bad for the police officer and his family, and to the people that got hurt," Gole added. "My heart goes out to the rest of their family."
Investigators have not released the names of the injured officer, the suspect or the two other people who were killed.
