AUSTIN, Texas — Mitchell Wasek, the son of Buc-ee's co-founder Don Wasek, has been formally charged after allegedly using spy cameras to record people in his home.
According to court documents, the 28-year-old was arrested in October 2023 after an incident at his family's lake house on Lake Travis in Spicewood, Texas. Records show Mitchell Wasek's father owns the home.
The Travis County District Attorney's Office said a grand jury returned six separate indictments against Mitchell Wasek, with 21 counts of invasive visual recording. The charges regard 13 separate victims who claimed they were secretly recorded over two years in Travis County.
Witnesses told authorities that Mitchell Wasek invited them to the house. They said a friend who works in cybersecurity joined them and found a charging port containing a hidden camera plugged into their bathroom wall. The group of friends left the house with the device and used a card reader to review the contents of a card from the camera. Court documents say they found dozens of videos of themselves and others in bathrooms and bedrooms "in various states of undress."
Another witness told authorities she also found videos of herself and another friend in Mitchell Wasek's bathroom at his home in Dallas. That camera and card were given to the Dallas Police Department, which sent the contents of the cameras to the Travis County Sheriff's Office.
According to documents, investigators allegedly found 68 videos containing at least 13 individuals filmed in eight separate rooms. The individuals in the videos were recorded using toilets, showering, changing clothes and/or having sex. Investigators also obtained Mitchell Wasek’s Amazon purchase history, which included several hidden camera devices sent to multiple addresses.
Mitchell Wasek is expected in court on June 5.
