Deputies find more than 2 pounds of marijuana inside Buc-ee's stuffed animals

The traffic stop happened on Intestate 10 westbound, near the 644 mile marker.

FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas — Deputies with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office made an unusual drug bust early Wednesday morning.

The sheriff's office said at approximately 1:10 a.m. on July 31, Deputy Cody Williams conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 10 westbound, near the 644 mile marker. The stop was for a traffic infraction, though the sheriff's office didn't state what kind.

Consent to search was given and during the search, Williams detected the smell of marijuana coming from the car. He then located several stuffed animals shaped like the Buc-ee's beaver mascot in the backseat.

When Williams felt the plushies, he detected packages inside and noticed that the plushies had been re-stitched. Upon further investigation, the stuffed beavers were found to contain bags of marijuana and ecstasy.

After the drugs were discovered, the driver – identified as 47-year-old Lugene Davis, Jr. of San Antonio – said he was suffering from chest pain. Medics were dispatched to the area and took Davis to a hospital for treatment.

The marijuana that was seized weighed over two pounds, according to the sheriff's office. Deputy Duane Meagher assisted Williams on the stop.

The sheriff's office said an arrest warrant will be issued for Davis. KVUE has reached out for more information, and this story will be updated when we receive a response.
