AUSTIN, Texas — Officers with the Cedar Park Police Department (CCPD) arrested a man after a house fire in Cedar Park Thursday after he allegedly hit several neighbors with a wooden board.
According to CCPD, officers responded to a disturbance in the 1400 block of Pagedale Drive. Officers discovered that neighbors confronted a man who had assaulted several people with a wooden board, as well as causing significant damage to a vehicle.
Officers identified the man as 37-year-old Rodney Richard Reed and subsequently arrested him. As the arrest was taking place, officers noticed smoke billowing from a nearby residence.
Cedar Park firefighters were already at the scene treating patients but then mobilized to fight the fire. The Austin Fire Department (AFD) assisted in fighting the fire.
Neighbors told KVUE that Reed had been respectful before the incident, but that he had been going through a tough time recently.
Reed was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was taken to the hospital after he was put into custody.
The house sustained significant damage in the fire and CCPD says an arson investigation is underway.
