CALDWELL COUNTY, Texas — Multiple people were detained following a large cockfighting ring bust near Lockhart, according to officials.
The Caldwell County Sheriff's Office said 35 roosters were seized following the incident on Sunday, which happened on Dry Creek Road.
According to the sheriff's office, the call initially came in as cruelty to animals. Nine people were detained, but so far, no arrests have been made. Meanwhile, the sheriff's office said the roosters were seized while 20 cars and a trailer were towed away.
In a separate instance, a man was arrested following another cockfighting ring bust northeast of Houston on Sunday.
Authorities found more than 100 roosters on the property, eight of which were dead. Razor blades were also discovered.
Between 20 to 30 people ran from the area when authorities arrived and those who were caught were given citations.
