More than 2 years later, authorities are still trying to find the man they believe killed a Pflugerville mother

Travis County detectives are asking for the public's help tracking down Luis Angel Montes.

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas — Luis Angel Montes always seemed to show up when he was least expected.

"He was popping up at locations where Camerina was without her providing that information to him, which was suspicious to not only Camarena, but to her daughters as well," Det. Javier Hernandez with the Travis County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) said.

Camerina Trujillo Perez, also known as Carmen, had been dating Montes for a year. But on Jan. 24, 2022, the 38-year-old mother decided to go on a date with another man who picked her up from La Casa SuperMercado, a local grocery store.

Little did she know, Montes was lurking in the distance, watching her every move. Investigators believe he put a tracking device on her car – a 2014 blue Chevrolet Sonic. After Montes saw Trujillo Perez and the man embracing affectionately, he became upset and called her repeatedly.

Cellphone records show they actually spoke for a couple of minutes, then met at the GEFCU parking lot on FM 685. Surveillance video shows both of their cars pulling in around 10:30 p.m.

"There was a light coming from the porch of the bank that was reflecting off the tail light of his vehicle. And what I noticed was, there was a break in that reflection. I counted that, I think, it was a little over 20 times. I also think I referred to the speed that it was being done – like someone was going back and forth, you know, quickly, at that time," Hernandez said.

Not long after, video shows Montes leaving the credit union parking lot in his car. But then, at 2 a.m., he returns.

"We see him arriving in what we believe was an Uber or Lyft," Hernandez said.

He then got into Trujillo Perez's car and drove off, toward Lake Pflugerville, where detectives believe he spent some time possibly getting rid of evidence. Meanwhile, back at the credit union, hours later, employees spotted a pool of blood where Trujillo Perez's car had been parked.

A few weeks later, on Feb. 13, her car was found in the Gold's Gym parking lot off State Highway 130 with her body inside.

According to an arrest warrant, Montes had told Trujillo Perez in the past that "if she tried to leave him, he would kill himself or do something stupid."

"I believe that he probably did love her. But something went wrong that night," Hernandez said. "And we need to understand what went wrong, and the best way for us to understand that is to hear it from him, in his own words."

A warrant is still out for Montes' arrest. He is now 38 years old.

Detectives believe he could be in Mexico or anywhere in the U.S.  Anyone with any information is asked to contact the TCSO tip line at 512-854-1444 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 512-472-8477.
