ELGIN, Texas — Court documents obtained by KVUE reveal what led up to an apparent road rage shooting in Elgin.
Fabian Salas, 34, remains in Travis County Jail on a $1 million bond following Tuesday night's shooting on East U.S. 290, near County Line Road.
Elgin police were called out to the area following a 911 call that shots were fired. When they arrived, police found Joseph Stancyzk lying on the side of the road with Salas standing nearby.
Police said Salas admitted he had a weapon on him and was arrested. During his arrest, Salas told police that Stancyzk "needed help" and allegedly admitted to shooting Stancyzk in the head.
According to a witness, Salas and Stancyzk were speeding and cutting each other off for several miles before stopping at a red light. Stancyzk got out of his vehicle and approached Salas' truck. The two immediately started fighting after Salas got out of his vehicle.
The witness said the two exchanged words after fighting, but that Salas then allegedly pulled out his gun and shot Stancyzk in the face.
