Lobos has done it again!
Fayette County's K-9 unit seized nearly 50 pounds of marijuana Tuesday during a traffic stop along Interstate 10.
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek said Sgt. Randy Thumann and Lobos stopped a Chrysler Town and Country van on I-10 near mile-marker 659 at approximately 2:43 p.m. for a traffic violation, and conducted a vehicle search after the driver exhibited nervous behavior and explained an "unbelievable travel itinerary."
The county said Korenek was given consent to search the vehicle and Lobos was deployed to search the van. Lobos alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics and followed the odor inside the vehicle to the floor cargo storage area, according to Korenek.
In the storage compartment, Thumann removed approximately 50 pounds of marijuana from the vehicle, which has an estimated street value of $25,000.
Marco Velasquez, 32, of San Elizario was charged with felony possession of marijuana and released to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center, according to Fayette County.
