AUSTIN, Texas — A man in Fayette County is facing a first-degree felony charge after engaging in an armed standoff with deputies Wednesday.

According to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call at around 5:30 p.m. reporting that a woman was in fear of a man at a residence they shared in the 1900 block of North Kirtley Road.

A deputy arrived and located a man, identified as 37-year-old Maximus Forbing, on a balcony. Forbing then became confrontational with the deputy, demanding to know the deputy's badge number, which the deputy gave him.

The woman at the residence began calling down to the deputy, saying that she needed him. This prompted Forbing to retreat back inside the residence where an argument broke out between the two. The deputy then attempted to enter the residence.

Forbing and the female then stood atop a staircase and Forbing pointed a handgun at the deputy. The female then came down the stairs, after which multiple deputies arrived at the scene and took cover behind a patrol car.

Deputies were eventually able to coax Forbing from the balcony and he surrendered. Forbing had been carrying a 9mm Beretta handgun, which he pointed at the deputy, in his jacket and was also in possession of a AM-15 rifle, which was found on the balcony.

Forbing was taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center and was charged with aggravated assault against a public servant. No one was injured in the incident, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.
