HUTTO, Texas – Five men were arrested Aug. 5 after a narcotics sting yielded more than five pounds of cocaine and more than $55,000 in cash, according to police.
According to an arrest affidavit, officers with Austin Police Department's Gang Suppression Unit were tipped off to drugs being moved through a home along the 20900 block of Prestwick Drive.
Officers followed Brett Garrett, 22, and Terry Alexander, 41, from the home to the Target along the 8600 block of Research Boulevard in Austin, where a drug deal was observed. Garrett and Alexander left the scene and began traveling along U.S. 183, where the pair was stopped for a traffic violation. A K-9 officer was called to the scene and subsequent search yielded approximately 100 grams of cocaine inside the vehicle.
Police also detained Eric Mendez, 37, Richard Anguiano, 35, and Brent Garrett Jr., 41, at the Walgreen's along the 1500 block of Wells Branch Parkway in Pflugerville. Officers located more than $3,000 on the men and seized approximately 103 grams of cocaine in the bust. Mendez and Anguiano told officers they had purchased cocaine from Garrett, Jr. numerous times in the past year, according to the affidavit.
Following the arrests, members of the Gang Suppression Unit conducted a search of the home along Prestwick Drive. A safe inside the home contained approximately 2.5 kilograms (5.6 pounds) of cocaine, approximately $58,000 in cash, a loaded 9mm pistol and several other items. An additional $2,900 was found inside a dresser in the master bedroom.
The five arrested were transported to the Travis County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. According to online jail records, four of the men are being held on $250,000 bail. Booking information for Brett Garrett was not available Monday afternoon.
