Fredericksburg daycare employee faces 14 child sex assault charges

An employee at a Fredericksburg church daycare center has been charged with multiple charges of sexual assault against children, authorities said Friday.

An employee at a Fredericksburg church daycare center has been charged with multiple charges of sexual assault against children, authorities said Friday.

Seth Batterton, 31, is facing 14 charges which include continuous sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child. Authorities said his alleged offenses date back as far as 2012 until April 20, 2016. He works at the Methodist Church Daycare.

According to the Fredericksburg Police Department, an elementary school student told school employees on April 19 that Batterton allegedly touched her. Police identified him as her mother's current boyfirend of about 7 months. Batterton denied touching the girl when police interviewed him.

Two days later, another child said he touched her innappropriately at the church daycare.

Back in 2012, a grand jury decided to not charge Batterton with allegedly assaulting a different child due to a lack of evidence.

On April 28 Batterton was placed in the Gillespie County Jail based on the two cases that came forward earlier in the month. He bonded out the following day.

In May, a grand jury handed down 12 indictments of sexual assault, one indictment of indecency with a child and one indictment of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14. All indictments stemmed from the recent outcries and the 2012 case which has been reopened.

He was arrested on May 16 with a bond set at $480,000.
