Halloween-masked robber strikes Austin cinema, police say

The incident occurred on Sunday, March 17 at 10:43 a.m. at the Regal Cinemas Arbor 8 at 9828 Great Hills Trail.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department Robbery Unit is asking for the public's help identifying a suspect who robbed a movie theater while wearing a Halloween-style mask.

The incident occurred on Sunday, March 17 at 10:43 a.m. at the Regal Cinemas Arbor 8 at 9828 Great Hills Trail.

According to APD, the suspect was wearing a Halloween-style latex mask and was armed with a handgun when he surprised employees prior to the theater opening.

He was able to flee the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

APD describes the suspect as six feet tall. He was last seen wearing the mask, a dark-colored hoodie, a blue baseball cap, blue jeans and black sneakers with white soles and was carrying a dark backpack.

APD is asking citizens to see if they recognize anything about the suspect, including his shoes, hat, gloves or backpack.

APD is also asking anyone who was traveling northbound on the Highway 183 frontage road between Great Hills Trail and Duval Road on March 17 around 10:45 to 11 a.m. who may have seen the suspect throwing objects out of his vehicle to contact APD immediately. APD said they can't disclose what those items are.

At this point, APD thinks this is an isolated incident, but the investigation is ongoing.
