HUTTO, Texas — Officials in Hutto are urging residents to lock their vehicle doors after multiple vehicles were broken into Sunday night.

According to the Hutto Police Department, the break-ins happened in a neighborhood near Limmer Loop, and multiple suspects are believed to have been involved.

HPD received this information from the Tip411 app, where a citizen relayed information to officers. This isn't the first time a string of break-ins has happened in Williamson County.

HPD stated the "area continues to be a target for traveling groups of people with the sole purpose of stealing property from your vehicle."

Often, the groups are made up of two to three individuals who "will literally walk down a street checking for open car doors."

If a car door is unlocked, the groups will then proceed to enter the vehicle and take whatever might be inside. In instances where these individuals have almost been caught, they run to a waiting car and drive off.

To help prevent this issue, HPD encourages community members to contact huttocrimetips@huttotx.gov with any information.

Residents can also download the Tip411 app as a way to provide anonymous information to officers and those who do not wish to download the app call also text 847411 with the message HUTTOPD.

Another way to send information is to visit HPD's 411 website, where you can submit the subject, location, description and images from a specific instance.

By locking doors and protecting valuable items, the chance of break-ins might become less of a possibility.
