Congressman John Carter's Georgetown office vandalized with red paint, 'Free Gaza'

"My support for Israel is unwavering & your intimidation won't work," Carter said in response to the vandalism.

AUSTIN, Texas — Georgetown police are investigating after Congressman John Carter’s Williamson County office was vandalized on Monday morning.

Police were called to the Republican representative’s office at around 8:47 a.m. for a reported possible burglary.

The front door of the office had been vandalized with red paint, and the phrase “Free Gaza” was spray painted on the sidewalk in red.

“Unhinged anti-Israel activists vandalized my Georgetown office,” Carter said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Let me make 2 things clear, my support for Israel is unwavering & your intimidation won’t work. Secondly, the parties responsible will be found & will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

A representative from Carter’s office estimated the cost of cleaning the damages to be around $2,000. Criminal mischief is a Class A misdemeanor if the amount of loss is between $750 and $2,500, according to the Georgetown Police Department.

The vandalism comes after the U.S. House on Saturday passed foreign military aid that includes over $26 billion to Israel. Carter, chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has been a fierce advocate for the aid legislation.

Meanwhile, several Texas Democrats voted against the Israel aid bill, calling for measures to ensure the money doesn’t contribute to more suffering in Gaza.

“All of us have seen the tragedy in Gaza. We have seen how Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government has used American weapons to kill indiscriminately, to force famine. Over 25,000 women and children dead,” U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-San Antonio), who is on the House Foreign Affairs Committee with Carter, said on the House floor. “We have to decide what we are going to do about it. Are we going to participate in that carnage or not?”

U.S. Reps. Greg Casar and Lloyd Doggett also voted against the Israel aid bill.
