AUSTIN, Texas — Convicted murderer Kaitlin Armstrong has requested an evidentiary hearing as she appeals her November conviction on a charge of first-degree murder, court records indicate.
Armstrong is currently serving a 90-year prison sentence after being found guilty of murdering professional cyclist Moriah Wilson in East Austin in May 2022.
Armstrong and her attorney are bringing forth claims of "newly discovered evidence" and false evidence that may have led to her conviction.
In December, attorneys for Armstrong filed a motion requesting a new trial, citing among other reasons, Armstrong's purported pregnancy during her arrest.
The motion stated that evidence showed a prosecution witness wasn't properly qualified to say how Armstrong's DNA showed up on Wilson's bicycle. It also stated a new trial should also be granted because a judge denied a prior motion by the defense to stifle her statements when she was initially questioned by police.
A court has not yet responded to Wilson's newest request.
