A Leander man has been charged with evading arrest and driving while intoxicated after he allegedly led a Williamson County Sheriff’s deputy on a high-speed chase Tuesday.
According to an arrest affidavit, the deputy observed a white Dodge pickup pull out of a gas station near Austin Avenue and University Avenue and crash into a tree. The driver, Christopher Dilan Rodriguez, drove around the deputy and fled south along Austin Avenue “traveling at least 90 mph.” Rodriguez “locked up all his brakes” and slid to a stop in a parking lot at Austin Avenue and FM 2243 before nearly hitting the deputy and fleeing west along FM 2243.
After reaching speeds of 110 mph and nearly hitting an eastbound dump truck, the affidavit states Leander police deployed “tire deflation devices” near CR 175 to flatten Rodriguez’s left front tire. Rodriguez continued until he was driving on his rim before pulling into a driveway and fleeing on foot. Authorities said Rodriguez was chased for “about 600 yards” before he surrendered.
A blood search warrant was obtained and executed for Rodriguez, and charges were subsequently filed for DWI.
Rodriguez was booked into the Williamson County Jail. Online records state he is being held on $12,500 bond.
