Man arrested after reportedly stabbing UT Austin student near campus

Police said the homeless man is in custody and no longer a threat to the public or the University of Texas Austin.

AUSTIN — Police arrested a man Monday night after he reportedly stabbed a University of Texas student near The Drag area off campus.

Police responded to the 2000 block of Guadalupe Street around 9 p.m. where the student reported he was confronted by a transient, who threatened and pushed him. He said the man then stabbed him in the forearm.

Within five minutes of receiving the emergency call, police said the man was arrested. He remains in custody and is no longer a threat to the area.

According to police, the student's injuries are not life-threatening.
