AUSTIN, Texas — A 59-year-old man was recently arrested for terroristic threats.
According to an affidavit obtained by KVUE, on Jan. 9, Charles Kent Kubie was seated on a Delta Airlines aircraft heading from Austin to Atlanta.
Before takeoff, a flight attendant asked Kubie to move his briefcase, to which he allegedly responded by saying the carry-on contained either, "Money, a bomb or a gun."
Considering the severity of this comment, the flight attendant informed the aircraft captain, who reached out to Delta Corporate Security. From there, the security team told the captain to contact the police directly and Kubie was taken from the plane.
All passengers on board were instructed to leave as well while an Airport Police K-9 searched the inside and main cabin carry-ons.
Following this incident, Kubie was arrested and charged because he allegedly "prevent[ed] or interrupt[ed] the occupation or use of a building, room, place of assembly, place to which the public has access, place of employment or occupation, aircraft, automobile, or other form of convenience, or other public place," according to the affidavit.
