Man arrested, charged with murder after shooting death at South Austin Super 8 motel

Police arrested 41-year-old Rahsaan Dobbins and charged him with first-degree murder in connection to the shooting.

AUSTIN, Texas — Police have charged a man with first-degree murder after another man was shot to death at a South Austin motel Thursday.

According to the Austin Police Department (APD), the shooting happened just after midnight at a Super 8 motel off of Interstate 35 and State Highway 71. APD said a caller reported that multiple men at the hotel were armed with guns.

When police arrived on the scene, they said they heard gunshots. Police then located 41-year-old Rashaan Dobbins, who had allegedly just shot a man at the motel. Dobbins was nude when police found him.

Police ordered Dobbins to drop his weapon, which he did before being arrested.

Officers performed first aid on the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified as 45-year-old Warnero Young.

According to the initial investigation, police said Dobbins was in a state of paranoia when the shooting occurred. Dobbins allegedly opened his motel door and shot Young, who was standing on the stairwell of the motel. Dobbins later admitted that he did not know Young.

Dobbins has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held in the Travis County jail.
