Man shot, killed at northeast Austin apartment complex identified by APD

Police said they received several calls about the apparent shooting Friday night.

AUSTIN, Texas — An investigation is ongoing following a deadly shooting in northeast Austin.

New details released by Austin police Wednesday revealed that 22-year-old Cleiver Gamez-Santos died following a shooting at an apartment complex on Friday, Jan. 12.

According to police, Gamez-Santos was shot multiple times at the Cricket Hollow Apartments near Interstate 35 and East Braker Lane. He was being taken away from the complex when police stopped the vehicle Gamez-Santos was in. APD said Gamez-Santos was sitting in the passenger seat with multiple gunshot wounds before he died at the hospital.

It's still unclear if police have any possible suspects related to this deadly shooting. Anyone with information on it is asked to contact the Austin Police Department's Tip Line at 512-472-TIPS.

Gamez-Santos' death is Austin's fifth homicide of 2024.
