APD: Man shot to death at southeast Austin apartment complex

It remains unclear if the suspect or victim knew each other before the shooting.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin police are investigating their second homicide in less than 24 hours.

A shooting was reported at an apartment complex on South Pleasant Valley Road in southeast Austin just after 2 p.m. Monday.

When officers arrived, they found a man in his 40s with an apparent gunshot wound. Despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Details on what led up to the shooting are unknown at this time, but police said the shooting happened on the apartment property and not inside a unit. They also said they're "confident" there is no danger to the public and that everyone involved has been accounted for.

It remains unclear if the suspect or victim knew each other or if anyone involved in the shooting lived at the complex.

Anyone with video or audio of the incident is asked to contact police.

The shooting appears to be Austin's 42nd homicide of 2024 and second homicide investigation after an incident on Sixth Street early Monday morning.
