MARBLE FALLS, Texas -- A Marble Falls police captain was severely injured while patrolling Lake Marble Falls on Saturday.

According to police, Captain Ted Young was patrolling the lake after the Marble Falls fireworks display when his police boat was struck by a bass boat, driven by 41-year-old James Fry.

Texas Parks and Wildlife was called to conduct the investigation since police personnel were involved. Fry, from Marble Falls, was arrested and charged with intoxicated assault causing serious bodily injury, a third-degree felony.

Police said the charge could be enhanced to a second-degree felony at trial since Young was on duty at the time.

Young's wife told KVUE on Tuesday that all of Ted's ribs are broken, a vertebrae is broken in his back and he has a lacerated spleen. She said Ted will have surgery Wednesday to put braces on some of his ribs.

Young has been with the Marble Falls Police Department since 1994 and a police officer since 1980.
