AUSTIN, Texas — A man has been arrested in connection with a homicide at a Shell gas station off East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard late Saturday night. The incident happened east of Mueller, next to Morris Williams Golf Course.
The Austin Police Department said at approximately 11:14 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, officers responded to a shooting at the gas station located at 4509 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. When they arrived at the scene, officers found a man with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle in the parking lot.
Officers performed life-saving measures until EMS arrived, but the man – later identified as 42-year-old Marquis Demps – died on the scene about 25 minutes later.
APD detectives determined that Demps was involved in an altercation with an employee at the gas station, 25-year-old Yaseen Naz. During the altercation, police said Naz shot Demps.
Naz was arrested for murder and booked into the Travis County Jail.
