On Thursday, a Travis County jury sentenced a man to three years in prison for a 2019 sexual assault that occurred in an apartment in Pflugerville, Texas.

Asley Quesada-Diaz, 36, was found guilty of a sexual assault that took place on Jan. 6, 2019.

Quesada-Diaz was a close family friend of the victim, according to a press release from the Travis County Office of the District Attorney. The District Attorney's Office said the victim's family had been supporting Quesada-Diaz after he moved to the Austin area from Cuba.

The victim jumped off the second-story balcony of her apartment in an attempt to escape Quesada-Diaz after he had sexually assaulted her, according to the release. She sustained injuries to her back, legs and arms from the fall.

The press release said a neighbor she didn't know drove the victim to safety and called 911.

Quesada-Diaz was later linked to the crime by DNA evidence collected from the victim after the assault.

“Unfortunately, this case represents the harsh reality that many sexual assaults are perpetrated by people known to the victim," said Lindsay Richards, a Travis County assistant district attorney. "I am grateful that our community is reaching a place where it has a better understanding of the dynamics involved in sexual assault cases and the realities that many sexual assault victims face. I am thankful to the jurors for their careful deliberation and attention to this case.”
