Suspect arrested in double homicide in far East Austin

David Ontiveros called 911 to report that he had shot and killed his wife and stepson in their home.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department has arrested a man in connection with a double homicide in far East Austin on April 22.

APD initially reported the incident as a suspicious death involving two victims. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to a hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.

At the time, APD said that one person was detained and transported to police headquarters for questioning. 

On Thursday, April 28, police provided updated information about the incident.

According to APD, at approximately 4 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 42-year-old David Ontiveros called 911 to report that he had shot and killed his wife and stepson at their home in the 6400 block of Garden View Drive. Police responded and took Ontiveros into custody. 

Upon entering the residence, police located two victims with obvious life-threatening trauma. The male victim, later identified as 14-year-old Rudy Limon-Lirra, was pronounced dead at the scene. The female victim, later identified as 39-year-old Christina Limon, was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center but later succumbed to her injuries.

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel responded to process the scene. After interviewing witnesses and reviewing video surveillance, Ontiveros was booked into the Travis County Jail for capital murder.

On Saturday, April 23, the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office conducted autopsies of both Limon-Lirra and Limon. Their official cause of death was determined to be gunshot wounds and the manner of death homicides.
