NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -- A man wanted for murder was shot and killed after a shootout with police Monday.
Earlier, New Braunfels police were searching for a man who they say shot his wife to death Sunday night.
Around 8:20 p.m., police received a domestic disturbance call to the 1800 block of State Highway 46, where they found Lisa Hermes, 32, shot to death in the driver's seat of a suburban. Officers also found three unharmed children between the ages for five and 10 years old in the back seat, according to the statement. The identities of the children will not be released.
Police believe Jerry Leon Hermes Jr., 35, is responsible for the death of his wife. They say he may be driving a blue 1997 Ford F-150 Extended Cab pickup truck with Texas license plate DJG-3744 and a grill guard bumper on the front. The truck is also missing the right rear tail lamp.
According to police, around 2:45 p.m. Monday, Hermes was found in a barn in the 2600 block of Wosing Lane in Guadalupe County. Members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force found Hermes, who began "engaging" the task force with a handgun, police said. A U.S. Deputy Marshal with the task force shot and killed Hermes, police said.
The incident is under investigation by the Texas Rangers.
