Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrests man in connection with June shooting in North Austin

Brandon Demont Miller, 46, was arrested on Monday in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on June 30.

AUSTIN, Texas — A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in North Austin more than four months ago.

Members of the U.S. Marshals-led Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrested 46-year-old Brandon Demont Miller, aka "Coo Coo," on Monday, Nov. 6, on a murder charge obtained by the Austin Police Department (APD) on July 6.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Miller was wanted for a fatal shooting that occurred on June 30 in the 8800 block of Redfield Lane in Austin. Police responded to a call that someone had been shot and arrived on the scene to find a man on the ground with a gunshot wound. Life-saving measures were performed, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Previous reporting shows that the shooting happened at the Raintree Apartments, and the victim was later identified as 47-year-old Larry Jennings.

Officials said witnesses reported that Jennings was seen in a confrontation with several men in the parking lot when a gunshot was heard. According to an affidavit obtained by KVUE, a witness saw one of the men spraying a fire extinguisher at Jennings. That's when Jennings became aggressive and started wielding a mop stick before throwing a piece of wood at Miller.

APD requested assistance from the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force to find and arrest Miller, who was last seen driving away from the scene of the shooting. APD conducted a homicide investigation and identified Miller as a suspect, obtaining a warrant for his arrest.

A dark purple sedan allegedly registered to Miller was pulled over in July by police with Miller's girlfriend behind the wheel. The affidavit states the vehicle matched the Hyundai on surveillance footage that left the scene of the deadly shooting.

The DOJ said the task force conducted a four-month fugitive investigation that led authorities to a home in the 3600 block of Menchaca Road. Miller was surrounded by task force officers and arrested without incident, according to the DOJ.

He was taken to the APD Headquarters, then booked into the Travis County Jail where he awaits judicial proceedings.

According to the DOJ, Miller was the second Austin homicide suspect apprehended by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force this past week.
