AUSTIN, Texas — The San Marcos Police Department (SMPD) has arrested a man in connection with a shooting that killed another man in the early morning of Saturday, Sept. 30.
According to SMPD, at approximately 2 a.m., officers responded to the Mission Trail apartment complex off of State Highway 123, between Redwood and Old Bastrop roads, for a call that shots had been fired and a person had been killed.
When officers arrived, they located a man – later identified as 41-year-old Nathaniel Hudson – who had been fatally shot inside one of the complex's units. Police said CPR and other lifesaving measures were conducted but were ultimately ineffective due to the nature of Hudson’s injuries.
SMPD said bullet holes could be seen in the dining area of the apartment and several shell casings were collected by the police, suggesting Hudson was shot multiple times.
Now police have identified 18-year-old Ray Robert Saenz Jr. as a suspect in Hudson's death. SMPD said information gathered by investigators suggests Hudson and Saenz knew each other and the shooting followed an altercation between the two of them.
Saenz was located in Austin on Tuesday, Oct. 10, and taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force following a short foot pursuit. He was taken to the Hays County Jail in San Marcos.
