Victim, suspect identified in deadly shooting at southeast Austin apartment complex

Police say the incident happened at around 9:40 p.m. Saturday. Investigators believe the likely cause was an argument that escalated.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified a victim and suspect after a shooting in southeast Austin that ended in one man's death on Saturday night.

APD received a call around 9:40 p.m. on Saturday reporting a shooting in the 2200 block of Wickersham Lane, at The Patten West apartment complex.

When officers arrived, they found a man – identified as 44-year-old Christopher Rodriguez – who had been shot, lying on the ground. Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene.

APD investigators said that they believe that an argument in one of the units escalated, leading to the shooting.

APD said 23-year-old Adam Brown was identified as the suspect and located on the scene by responding officers. He was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

The shooting is being investigated as Austin's 14th homicide of 2024.
