Police still searching for suspect in southeast Austin apartment homicide

In an update on Tuesday, July 23, APD identified the victim as 39-year-old Jose Ramon Lizarraga Boca Negra.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) is still searching for a suspect after a homicide in southeast Austin on Thursday, July 18.

Around 2 a.m., APD officers responded to an urgent call at the Array Apartments in the 2000 block of Burton Drive after someone reported a person had tried to kill his friend.

Officers and Austin-Travis County EMS medics arrived on the scene and located a man, identified as 39-year-old Jose Ramon Lizarraga Boca Negra, with an apparent gunshot wound. Negra was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators said Negra had been shot inside his apartment and the suspect then fled the area.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact APD at 512-974-TIPS or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for any information that leads to an arrest.

This case is being investigated as Austin’s 34th homicide of 2024.
