Suspect shot by police after allegedly trying to steal unmarked vehicle in East Austin

The suspect was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

AUSTIN, Texas — Police are investigating after a suspect was shot by a Pflugerville police officer in East Austin on Wednesday night.

According to the Pflugerville Police Department, officers were working a narcotics investigation out of Pflugerville that brought then to the area near Decker Lane and Loyola Lane. Officers came in contact with a suspect and attempted to perform a traffic stop.

Police say the suspect became combative with officers and attempted to steal an unmarked police unit and flee the scene, prompting a Pflugerville police officer to fire their weapon at the suspect.

Officers administered aid to the suspect on-scene before they were taken to Dell Seton Medical Center. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

Per department protocol, the officer who fired their weapon has been placed on administrative leave.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing. The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation.
