The man suspected in the series of rock-throwing incidents along Interstate 35 has declined a 40-year plea offer and plans to proceed toward a jury trial.
According to KVUE’s partners at the Austin American-Statesman, 60-year-old Patrick Johnson turned down the state’s offer, which would be to have the 40 years run concurrent to his current 99-year sentence on an unrelated conviction of sexual assault of a minor.
Johnson was arrested in June for his suspected role in the rock-throwings, and police allege he was behind the majority of the more than 90 incidents.
KVUE and the Statesman reported in October he said he planned to plead no contest to the charges.
