AUSTIN, Texas — We're learning new details about how authorities found and arrested the man accused of killing Teressa Ferguson in North Austin back in September.
According to an affidavit obtained by KVUE, witnesses told police a silver Infiniti was stopped next to Ferguson's vehicle along the southbound service road of Interstate 35 in North Austin when shots were fired. The Infiniti took off, which led to witnesses finding Ferguson slumped over in the driver's seat of her Ford Mustang.
Surveillance footage from the Super 8 motel nearby captured the crime scene and saw a heavily tinted Infiniti allegedly driven by Justin Justice, who was wearing a white tank top driving. The video also showed damage to the right wheel and fender area of the vehicle.
Several days later, on Oct. 4, the affidavit said an officer with the Austin Police Department's Violent Crimes Task Force spotted the Infiniti while collecting surveillance footage on an unrelated case. The vehicle came back as registered to Justice, who is from Harker Heights, Texas.
On Oct. 5, homicide detectives helped perform a traffic stop near East Austin, which led to APD impounding Justice's Infiniti and seizing two of his cellphones.
APD said investigators later discovered a gun in the car's glove box and a screenshot of a KVUE news article reporting on Ferguson's death on one of Justice's cellphones.
A warrant for Justice's arrest was issued on Oct. 23 before he was eventually taken into custody on Oct. 31. Justice remains in Travis County jail on six charges, including murder. His total bond was set at $310,000.
