A Texas State student has been arrested on child porn charges.

A Texas State student has been arrested on charges he was in possession of child pornography.

Jackson Bell, 22, of Round Rock was arrested July 27 after a Texas State University police investigation.

According to a report prepared by investigators, the parents of an 11-year-old girl in Virginia noticed that she was having inappropriate conversations through a mobile app called Kik. Her parents reported the conversations to police.

The girl told police that she sent several explicit pictures of herself through the app to a person with the screen name Elphantor. Police were able to link that screen name to Bell's university e-mail account.

Authorities searched Bell's home in Round Rock and seized several electronic devices. They were able to identify 14 pictures that show a child under the age of 18 engaged in sexual conduct. In addition, authorities found about 100 pictures of anime drawings depicting children and toddlers in various sexual positions.

A university spokesman confirmed Bell is a student at the university, but is not taking classes this summer. Bell is enrolled for the fall.

Online records at the Hays County Jail state Bell was arrested Wednesday on 14 counts of possession of child pornography, a third-degree felony. Jail records state he was released after posting bond shortly after his arrest.

If convicted, each charge carries a sentence of 2-10 years in state prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Texas State University police have classified it as an ongoing investigation and added that additional charges could be filed.

The case is being investigated by Texas State University, the Hays County Sheriff's Office, the Chesterfield County Police Department and the Attorney's General Office.
