Woman accused of stealing more than $800 while pretending to be police officer in West Lake Hills

Evelyn Ibarra-Fernandez, 23, allegedly claimed to be an officer while stealing more than $800 in cash and various items from the victims.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Travis County Sheriff's Office arrested a woman on Feb. 2 after she allegedly robbed three women while impersonating a police officer.

According to an affidavit, deputies responded to a reckless driving call just after 1 p.m. at Westlake Drive and Trailview Mesa Drive in Westlake Hills.

The callers reported that a vehicle had been following them for about a mile on Westlake Drive, honking its horn and flashing its hazards. When the victims turned onto Trailview Mesa Drive, to a house they were working at, the suspect – identified as 23-year-old Evelyn Ibarra-Fernandez – wedged her vehicle in front of the victim's vehicle and got out.

Ibarra-Fernandez approached one of the passengers and claimed she was a police officer before grabbing the passenger and pulling her out of the vehicle, according tot he affidavit.

Ibarra-Fernandez then walked the victim away from the vehicle and took her ID, cellphone and credit card. The suspect then walked back to the victim's vehicle and opened another passenger's door, identifying herself as an officer and rifling through their belongings.

The victims, three women, repeatedly asked Ibarra-Fernandez to identify herself, but she never responded as there was a language barrier. Ibarra-Fernandez took $840, an ID and credit cards from a backpack that was sitting in the backseat. She then allegedly attempted to open the driver's door, but the driver prevented it.

The affidavit says that Ibarra-Fernandez then left the vehicle and returned to her vehicle to take pictures of the ID and credit cards. Westlake PD arrived on the scene and asked her to show them the photos, but she refused and locked her phone.

Ibarra-Fernandez was arrested by a Travis County Sheriff's Office deputy. She's been charged with impersonating a public servant and also faces robbery charges.
