AUSTIN, Texas — Police are searching for a woman accused of drugging men in Downtown Austin since 2022.
Surveillance photos of the woman were released Wednesday as the Austin Police Department (APD) said the woman is responsible for several robberies in the Entertainment District.
Investigators believe the woman drugged her victims before stealing their cellphones and credit cards. Police said the incidents started in January 2022, with the most recent case happening in December 2023. The woman then allegedly spent more than $75,000 in fraudulent purchases and transactions by using banking applications along with physical purchases at multiple businesses.
Ron Rosaia isn't from Austin and said he hopes the woman is caught soon.
"I definitely think it's messed up to be doing that, no matter who you are," Rosaia said. "It's just basic human courtesy to not do that to people."
Randy Roberts also doesn't live in Austin but visits often and frequents Sixth Street.
"You kind of wish that you can trust people, and find out that you can't – it just puts me on edge," Roberts said.
Roberts added that although it doesn't make him wary of going out in the area, he is knows to be vigilant.
"I'm smart and I trust people I'm with, so I'm not going to get my self into a stupid situation," Roberts said.
