Dime Box ISD approves four-day school week

The approval for the four-day school week came in a meeting held on April 18.

DIME BOX, Texas — Dime Box Independent School District sent out a letter to parents on back in February proposing a four-day school week and the district approved the proposal at a meeting April 18.

The new four day week flex calendar for the 2019-2020 school year will make most Mondays optional for students, according to the district.

The letter sent to parents back in February claims Mondays in August and the Mondays of STAAR testing will still be required for attendance by students.

Olfen ISD, another small school district in Texas, offered the first four-day school week in the state back in 2016.

The district said the regular school day will switch to being from 8 a.m. to 4:05 p.m. each day, main events will be moved from Monday to other days of the week when possible, teachers will be at school for "flex Mondays" to help students and transportation will still be offered and this should not impact other holidays.
