ACC opens new Military Network to support needs of military, veteran families

The ACC Military Families Center aims to connect military and veteran families with services available at and through the college.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Community College (ACC) is showing its support for military and veteran families with a new "Military Network" at its Highland campus.

ACC will host a ribbon-cutting and opening ceremony for the new network at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The event will be held at Building 4000 on the Highland campus.

ACC said the Military Network will be home to the Veterans Resource Center and the new Military Families Center.

"Central Texas has recently experienced an influx of military members and veterans. However, the area lacks the necessary resources, systems, and community. Military families are accustomed to immediate resources in their previous living spaces and find themselves in a new environment without a supportive infrastructure," ACC said.

The college said the new ACC Military Families Center aims to connect military and veteran families with services available at and through ACC. The Military Network will provide families access to ACC and partner programming, events and resources, including ACC Career Services, co-working spaces, Digital Fluency programs, the Dress for Success Financial Literacy Program, mutual support groups, networking opportunities and career support.

Meanwhile, ACC's Veterans Resource Center has been serving as a central hub for veterans since 2018. ACC said the center organizes educational programs and outreach efforts and offers community, financial aid and academic and emotional support to the college's student veterans and their families.
