AUSTIN, Texas — Austin ISD is working to fix heating issues that have been reported at several schools this week amid freezing temperatures.
About 30 of the district's 116 campuses reported heat problems this week. One of those schools was Anderson High School, where parents became concerned when parts of the school didn't have heat on Tuesday and Wednesday.
KVUE reached out to the school district. A spokesperson said crews were fixing the heating issue at Anderson High School Wednesday afternoon.
“I come out of my house and my car to school in the morning, and I walk in and I'm cold,” Anderson High School senior Nicolas Postiglion said. “And then I go sit in my classroom and I'm cold, and I come out for lunch and I'm cold. I just want to be warm. My feet were really cold, and I asked the teacher what was going on and she didn't really have an answer. But it was noticeably colder than usual.”
Austin ISD said its facilities team is addressing the issues that have come up and as the district learns more, it will share additional details. As of Wednesday afternoon, Austin ISD said more than 70% of its campuses reported no issues. Campuses that have reported issues are being addressed, it said.
Austin ISD had a two-hour delay on Wednesday due to the cold temperatures.
