AUSTIN, Texas — Austin ISD is working to improve internet access on several of its campuses.
A new program called Project Lighthouse will install utility poles on campuses to provide better connectivity to students and surrounding communities.
In 2021, the district struck an agreement with branch communications to construct the poles. There's no set schedule for construction yet, but work could begin as soon as the last week of this month.
The first campuses to have work done will include Akins High, Austin High and the Liberal Arts and Science Academy.
Elementary schools will also get a boost, including Blanton, Blazier, Cook, Graham, Perez and Jordan elementary schools.
Construction at each campus is expected to take about three weeks.
