Del Valle ISD superintendent announces plans to retire at the end of the year

Dr. Annette Tielle has served DVISD for seven years and has worked in public education for three decades.

DEL VALLE, Texas — Del Valle ISD's (DVISD) superintendent is saying goodbye.

After seven years with the district and three decades in public education, Dr. Annette Tielle announced Friday that she will retire this December.

Tielle said throughout her time with DVISD, she has seen it grow dramatically and overcome significant challenges like the pandemic and ice storms. She said she believes the district and its students have bright futures ahead of them.

"I am excited about what lies ahead," Tielle said in a message to the DVISD community. "I'm excited about all that's yet to come. You all have accomplished so much, and I can't wait to be here on the sidelines watching you. If you ever need me to come back in the trenches, I'll always be by your side. And I'm always going to be rooting for every one of you because you are my family, and I love being part of this family."

Tielle said she intends to provide ample time to prepare a transition plan for her successor, but she hopes to close her tenure with several more milestones, including creating a budget for staff raises, launching the Thinkery Community Center, opening the P-TECH/ECHS Campus and Gigafactory Studio and "continuing to lead the positive momentum" of building the district's second high school in Whisper Valley.

DVISD has not yet announced plans for its search for a new superintendent, but the school board is set to meet next week.
